Wedding Proposal with Toronto Magician Dan Trommater
I like this. I really do. It’s touching. It’s a good idea. And you pulled it off wonderfully well. You, Dan, created a magical moment that will stand in reality forever.
I probably would have made fun of you here for stopping the routine to watch the helicopter, except that it was pretty damn cool that you stopped the routine to watch a helicopter!
However, I will have to say this. When you show a chop cup empty by holding it up in the air, aren’t you kind of proving to yourself that it’s empty more than anyone else? Let me put it this way, If there is a ball in that cup, it would have fallen out when it’s upside-down. To hold it up and prove that it is indeed empty is in fact making the mistake of well, proving something that doesn’t need to be proved. Still with me? Kind of like, “an ordinary regular normal deck of cards.” It’s like you think that they know it’s a chop cup, and you’re proving it’s not…which is ridiculous.
Don Alan proves the cup is empty, not by asking the spectators if the cup is empty, but by handing them the ball and letting them drop it in the cup. Then, when he dumps out the ball, IT MUST BE EMPTY. But he never states that it is.
The magic was good enough to get some applause, but you never let the effect breath, and you never let your audience feel that it was okay to show emotions, at any point. If you work on this, you will get more applause, instead of it getting “quieter and quieter” as you say on the video.
All in all, though, you did entertain, and I enjoyed it, and you did a PERFECT job of leading the guy to his knees, and at the very end, taking the step backwards and letting the attention be where it needed to be. You did lead the applause for the couple. Anyway, I’m very glad I saw this video, so thanks.
