Guy Hollingworth's Reformation by Koudai
Sorry, the music didn’t mesmerize me enough on this one. I saw much too clearly. If the premise of the effect is that you are going to tear up a card and restore it, then take my advice: Stand in front of a mirror, tear up a card, and pretend – PRETEND – to restore it. Use your imagination. How do you movements look in this hypothetical mirror-magic world?
You have far too many hand motions going on for what you claim to be doing. This is one of the problems with any piece by piece restoration. But in this presentation in particular, you look like you’re hiding something for the entirety of the effect. And you just can’t do that. Instead of showing us a miracle, you’re broadcasting the method.
Another item of note is that two minutes and thirty six seconds into the video, you cover the entire card with your hands. If the card is going to leave our view anyways, then all of the prior hiding motions are entirely wasted. What was the point, if you could have just switched cards anyways. It needs cleaned up.
The tense, scared way you hold your hands really projects the trickery. I think I remember learning this effect at one point (never performed it), but in your version it seems as if you are hiding four cards, one in each stage of the restoration.
And that suit…well, let’s just say if you’re going to keep doing the effect that way, then keep wearing that suit as well. Please.
