Richard Hatch – Downsian Coins at The Magic Castle

I like this video. It’s entertaining to watch and humorous. Unfortunately it’ is mostly perceived skill, not magic. The only magic that he does is the vanish of five coins, and it is one of the worst coin vanishes I’ve seen lately. It’s not natural. The palm looks very bad, and everybody watching, magician and layman alike, all know exactly what happened; nobody was fooled. The applause here is polite. “BUT MATT,” you say to me in surprise, “Vanishing FIVE half dollars is really hard! You couldn’t do it!” And I answer you by saying that if my vanish looked that bad, then it’s not magic, and I WOULDN’T do it. ‘Nuff said.
